Selection & Placement – Tweezers & Pick Up

Isolation tweezers are curved tweezers that are held in your left hand. (Opposite if you are left handed)

Straight tweezers held in the right hand are for pick up. (Opposite if you are left handed)

Avoid floating hands and avoid curling fingers. Never approach your client with tweezers straight up and down – always come in from an angle.

Isolating Means: Separating one lash from all others with your curved tweezers. Most people have 3-4 layers of natural lashes so the objective is to work through the layers to completely isolate a single lash that is in the talagen stage.

It is imperative to isolate only one lash as applying an extension to more than one lash will not allow the natural lash to grow and move freely and this will result in damage and bald spots in the natural lash line.

 Do Not Do The Following:

  • Rest tweezers on eye lid – this can result in serious injury and irritation for your client
  • Push down on the under eye pad with your tweezers as this will be uncomfortable and
or painful for your client. It can also cause the under eye pad to shift and bottom lashes can become adhered to top lashes.
  • Allow other lashes to cross over or under the isolated lash as this can result in multiple lashes being bonded together.

Pick up the lashes from a 1 o’clock angle about 1/3 of the way down the lash. It is important to remove the lash strip by peeling it towards you – peeling back or up will result in the curvature becoming damaged or crimped.

Do not pick up at less than a 1 o clock angle as it will be at an incorrect angle to attach to the natural lash. Do not pick up from the base or more than 1/3 of the way down or you will get adhesive on your tweezers and will glue your tweezers to the lash.

Placement

  • Dip your lash into the adhesive drop 1/3 of the way up from the bottom. This will result in 2-3 beads along the base of the extension. Shimmy the lash extension halfway up and down the natural lash once and drop 1 mm from the base of the natural lash.
  • The lash extension should be parallel to the natural lash.
  • Hold the isolation for 3 seconds after attaching the lash extension to give it a moment to dry and cure before allowing other lash hairs to touch it and risk adhering more than one lash to the extension. 8 second dry time for the sensitive glue.
  • Check your client’s lashes frequently throughout application to ensure they are not sticking together. If they do break them apart do not leave them stuck.
  • Brush through lashes periodically to keep your area clean. You will be able to see your work and where needs more attention after grooming.
